Propagation by Stem Cuttings of Tropaeolum pentaphyllum Lam. (Crem): An Alternative for Production of Seed Tubers

The herbaceous vine Tropaeolum pentaphyllum Lam. (Tropaeolaceae), popularly known as crem, has great potential for use, especially its tubers. However, there is still a lack of studies regarding this species. objective study was to test the viability propagation by stem cuttings production T. seed Two experiments were carried out in greenhouse under controlled conditions. In both experiments, experimental design completely randomized. first one, five treatments evaluated (stem with 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 cm) three replicates, each one 10 cuttings. second experiment, positions: apical, middle basal), four replications, Data submitted analysis variance (ANOVA) means compared Tukey’s (p < 0.05). Stem 15 cm length had highest rate tuber formation (20.0%) produced tubers mass (3.2 g). Cuttings from portion rooting (52.5%) (45.0%) rates. Thus, are indicated pentaphyllum. Considering use species future, results found very important, since would enable large amount short period time.
